As a colonel in the California State Guard, I first became involved with the Royal Canadian Legion when they sponsored of the pipe band I was a member of “the Black Ravens.” We actually had a special relationship with the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada, and during the 1980s our post Colour Party wore their uniforms circa 1944, and did so at the pleasure of the Black Watch Commanding Officer. Additionally, in 1995-96 I served in the United Nations mission in Haiti with Canadians, and had a Canadian Commanding Officer when first in country.
Over the past 40 years, I have been actively involved in Branch 25 – serving in most of the executive positions. At present, I am the immediate Past President and also serving as the Vice President.
I joined to maintain the connections to the many Canadian comrades and organizations that I had established.
