In what seems like an overnight change, the air here in Maine has chilled and the leaves have all started to turn bright colors. The Fall festivities of apple picking and pumpkin carving have started and my grandchildren are already planning this year’s costumes for trick-or-treating.
With every new season, I am reminded of how quickly time seems to fly by. In the beginning, we used to plan for the wreath “season,” beginning in late Fall and lasting through Wreaths Across America Day. Today, we know that Wreaths Across America is more than a “season” or for that matter, more than a Saturday each December. It is a year-long mission that has grown to include nearly 2 million volunteers, a third of whom are children, and has brought communities across the country together with a shared idea.
As we head into what may often seem like the busiest time of year, I ask that you try to take time to give back and support those within your own communities.
Remember, Honor, Teach
With gratitude,
Karen Worcester

A Shout Out to the United States Marines
Most all of us know that the motto “Semper Fidelis,” also abbreviated to “Semper Fi,” is the motto for the United States Marine Corps. It is a Latin phrase and it means“Always Faithful.”
On Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, the Marine Corps could have added another meaning to their motto: ”Always Ready.”

More than 3,500 groups will participate in the program this year by selling wreath sponsorships for veterans within their own communities. Without these dedicated volunteers setting up tables at craft fairs, organizing rides and walks, hosting BBQs and spaghetti dinners, we would not be able to raise the funds needed to place veterans’ wreaths for so many heroes. This year, the goal is to honor at least 1.8 million veterans and you can help the groups in your community to do it.
To find a participating Fundraising Group in your hometown click below to search your region and for just $15 help to honor a local hero, while also helping give back to your community.
