Budget does little to improve veterans benefits

Bad for the military; not good enough for veterans. That about sums up defence-related elements of the federal budget tabled March 22 by Finance Minister Bill Morneau.

How to apply for veterans’ disability benefits

There are a number of ways to acquire application forms and get help filling them in.

Receive application forms by mail: contact Veterans Affairs Canada at 1-866-522-2122.

Download forms: www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/forms/document/493.

Pick up and drop off forms at Service Canada sites across the country at www.servicecanada.gc.ca or 1-800-622-6232.

Apply for disability benefits through a My VAC Account. Register for an account online at www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/e_ services/register.

Veterans Affairs Canada district office staff will help you prepare your application and tell you where to get supporting documents. Find the closest VAC office at www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/contact.

Service officers with veterans’ advocacy groups such as The Royal Canadian Legion will help you assemble information for your application and provide advice and support, free of charge. Contact a RCL service officer through a local branch, servicebureau@legion.ca.
or call 1-877-534-4666.

VAC staff or RCL representatives also offer advice and support at Integrated Personnel Support Centres: www.forces.gc.ca/en/caf-community-support-services-casualty-support/contact-info.page. ;

Defense News
President Donald Trump’s criticism about the pricetag of the F-35 “was fair,” said Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson, though she stopped short of confirming whether his demands for cost cuts actually influenced reductions. Hewson, in an interview with Defense News, credited Trump for his astute understanding of volume and the need to drive costs down — an understanding that comes with business savvy, she noted.  READ MORE
