Why we need you to take on this challenge

Every pound raised from your 10,000 Step challenge helps to support the UK’s most vulnerable veterans by allowing RBLI to provide safe homes and the support they need to get back on their feet. RBLI has ambitious plans to expand the outstanding facilities, care and welfare services we provide.

The major expansion, scheduled for completion in 2024, will vastly increase the unique mix of homes for veterans and their families. When complete, our expanded Village will mean RBLI can support an additional 600 veterans annually for the next 100 years.

An item from the organization formerly known as There But Not There.

Hi Friend,
You are invited to take part in RBLI’s biggest campaign yet, The Great Tommy Sleep Out 2023, raising vital funds and awareness in support of veterans facing homelessness. The Great Tommy Sleep Out is a fundraising challenge designed to support the estimated 6,000 veterans that are experiencing homelessness in the UK right now. The challenge doesn’t replicate rough sleeping, but it does give you an idea of the situation far too many of the nations heroes find themselves in.

You can sleep outside for one night or more, in a tent, homemade shelter or directly beneath the stars. However you do the challenge is up to you. Just pick your location, plan your night out and get fundraising! 👏⛺

Why do we need you to take part and sleep out?

Our emergency accommodation, Mountbatten Pavilion, is facing enormous pressure this winter and will rely heavily on funds raised from generous supporters like you. Recent global events have deeply impacted military veterans right across the nation and we have seen a 45% increase in the demand for our services for homeless veterans over the past year alone. Every pound you raise helps the UK’s most vulnerable veterans, providing safe homes and the support they need to get back on their feet.

Who can take part?

We want you to take part as an individual, with your group like Cadets or Rotary, or even encourage your business to join this crucial campaign. Everyone that fundraises gets a fundraising pack and free beanie, and the team at RBLI will provide plenty of supporting documents to help you plan your sleep out. Get in touch with us for a chat about how you can get involved.

So what’s the next step?

The challenge officially begins in March 2023, so you have plenty time to start planning! However you are doing your challenge, your safety is our top priority. The RBLI Newsletter is back!

We’re delighted to be back and eager to provide our supporters with the latest news, products and services to support our Armed Forces community. In this issue, we reflect on the Remembrance period, and share some exciting news including a Royal visit, updates in Government initiatives to improve veteran support and more.

Armistice Day Service 2022

On 11th November 2022, RBLI staff, residents, and people from the local community gathered together in RBLI’s Garden of Honour to remember the brave souls who have given their lives so that we may experience the freedom and luxuries we have today.

The service was live streamed on RBLI’s Facebook page and included prayers from Rev Ruth Peet, speeches from veterans, and wreath laying from numerous members of the local community including schools, veterans and council members.

RBLI host a Royal visit

Earlier this month, we were honoured to welcome Their Royal Highnesses Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie to Royal British Legion Industries, who kindly took the time to see RBLI’s vital care, welfare and employment services delivered to Armed Forces veterans across the UK.

The Princesses came to meet veterans who have completed RBLI’s Lifeworks employability programme after supporting the course earlier in the year at The Big Curry Lunch. They learnt more about how our specialist support helps veterans at all stages of transition to rediscovering independence outside of the military.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support for RBLI.

Last week was Mental Health Awareness week; a week that is extremely important to all of us at RBLI. Many of the veterans we strive to support continue to battle mental health issues, including PTSD, and we will continue to do everything we can to help them through the difficulties they face after leaving the Armed Forces. If you are or know someone finding it difficult returning to civilian life, we are here to help.

It’s never too late to reach out, whether you’re looking to boost your confidence in finding work, looking for housing or feel lost in regards to what to do next; we can help you achieve an independent future. Please call us on 01622 795900 or email enquiries@rbli.co.uk and see how we can help you.

JAMES AWARDED WITH A LIMITED EDITION TOMMY

James has been an incredible inspiration to so many still suffering the effects of PTSD, taking on the mammoth challenge of running 10k every day during the month of March to raise awareness for those still in need of support.

Not only has he raised awareness by completing his challenge, but he has also raised almost £1,000 for RBLI’s Mountbatten Pavilion; a place close to his heart and where he previously spent a lot of his time. We were delighted to present him with his very own special edition James’ Journey Tommy in commemoration of his fantastic achievement.
