The origin story
The Memorial Cup is one of hockey’s oldest and most cherished prizes. It was first presented in 1919, in remembrance of the Canadian soldiers who died fighting in the First World War. In honour of this year’s 100thpresentation, Canada Post is celebrating the Memorial Cup’s rich history with a nostalgic stamp and Official First Day Cover.

100th Presentation of the Memorial Cup
With a design evoking the Canadian flag, the stamp illustrates the Cup’s long history by showing players from different eras facing off on either side of the treasured trophy. The players are wearing uniforms of the Regina Pats, runners-up in the inaugural Memorial Cup and hosts of this year’s centennial event.
In 2010, the Memorial Cup was rededicated to the memory of all members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have given their lives while serving their country. In tribute, the back of the Official First Day Cover bears a photograph of two Canadian Armed Forces members accompanying the Cup.
