Celebration of Life – Danny Mander

We have been notified of the details for the Celebration of Life for Danny Mander.  We would love to see members of the Royal Canadian Legion in attendance, as his association with our branch was a big part of Danny’s life.


Danny died July 7th, 2019 at 102 years old. His Celebration of Life party will be:

When: Saturday, February 29th, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Where: Rancho Murieta Association Building, 7191 Murieta Parkway, Rancho Murieta, CA 95683

Obituary: Daniel “Danny” Mander

Today we learned of the recent passing of one of our longtime members – Daniel “Danny” Mander.  Our colleagues at the Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) Royal Military Police (RMP) passed along the information in their August newsletter.  They wrote:


MANDER – Daniel “Danny” Mander was born in 1917 at Eccles, Lancashire and died in California USA 102 years later. The North American branch issued the following. ‘On behalf of the RMPA North America Branch Chairman, Bill Drummond and Executive, we are sad to inform members that our Branch member Daniel “Danny” MANDER, passed away this July, in Elk Grove, California U.S.A. at the age of 102 years. Danny served in the British Army – The Corps of Military Police from 1939 to 1945. For the duration of WWll. He became one of Sir Winston Churchill’s war-time bodyguards including Sir Winston’s time at the Tehran Conference in 1943. Additional service in Palestine, Egypt and Iran. In 1964 Danny and family emigrated to Los Gatos, California USA, where he served as a real-estate agent for 43 years. Danny was a Life member of RMPA having join the Association in 1946. Also a Life member of RMPA North America Branch, having joined the Branch in 2002, its initial formation year. He was a member of the USBritish America Club, The Caledonia Club and The Churchill Society. Danny was still driving his car at age 100 and at his 100th birthday celebration he was still able to play the piano. The North America Branch made a special RMPA presentation at this event. Danny and his wife Heather attended many North America Branch Reunions, his last one being in 2011 at San Francisco. Danny was predeceased by his first wife Edna, second wife Heather, a brother, sister and two children. He is survived by a granddaughter and grandson Jason Ducommun.


Danny was also a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, US Zone, Branch #25 representing the San Francisco Bay area.  He will be missed by many.
