Happy Fall – the start of my favorite time of year here in Maine! The air is cool and crisp, and the leaves have started to change colors. This is also the time of year that the team here really starts to feel the ramp up to National Wreaths Across America Day.
When we first began this mission in 2007, we used to plan for the “season,” beginning in October and lasting through December. Today, we know that Wreaths Across America is more than a “season” or for that matter, more than one day in December. It is a year-long mission and mindset that has grown to include more than 3 million volunteers nationwide, and has brought communities in every state together with a shared goal to remember the fallen, honor those that serve and their families, and teach the next generation the value of freedom.
My hope is that you, too, will play a part this year.
Remember-Honor-Teach
With gratitude,
Karen Worcester

Join us in raising the American Flag every Tuesday at 9 am ET
On September 11, 2019, the Town of Freeport celebrated the Flag Ladies as they made their last stand. Citizens and dignitaries showered them with respect and praise, noting their impact on the town, state, and nation. Major General (Ret.) John W. Libby who served as Maine’s Adjutant General of the National Guard during the 9-11 attacks and their aftermath asked this question during his tribute speech. “Unanswered this morning, is who will lift the flag in the spirit of 9-12 now that these remarkable ladies have moved on?”
The answer to that question is Wreaths Across America.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2019, Wreaths Across America and its largest corporate donor, Worcester Wreaths, unveiled a new flagpole and monument dedicated to the Freeport Flag Ladies. Together, they raised the flag at 9 AM and Wreaths Across America committed to doing so every Tuesday morning moving forward, thus keeping the legacy of the Freeport Flag ladies alive uniting citizens in the spirit of 9-12.

Everyone Plays A Part

The 10 balsam bouquets comprising each veteran’s wreath are symbolic of so much to us at Wreaths Across America. Represented here by hands, they demonstrate the many ways individuals and communities come together to Remember, Honor and Teach.
Each month, we’ll share stories from across the country of the different ways to #PlayAPart2019.
