Marching forward
The world continues to tumble through this pandemic and now an incomprehensible war. Canadians in the Bay Area, amidst this turmoil are reaching out to family and friends around the world and back in Canada, and still making summer plans and cheering on the Canadian Men’s Soccer Team who are on their way to the World Cup.

We are also featuring the Canadian Women’s Club who just celebrated a big birthday this month.

Digital Moose Lounge throwback CANADA DAY PICNIC in the park! We can’t wait to re-establish our roots with new and old friends in the SF Bay Area. We will even have our own Digital Moose and Mountie in attendance! Enjoy a tasty BBQ, cold drinks at the bar, wine tasting, trivia, family-friendly games, crafts, prizes and surprises!

The Canadian Women’s Club of San Francisco recently celebrated it’s 57th birthday over lunch. The DML was there and we are excited to share more about this vibrant and established network with you all.
Did you know…
- Number of women who are part of the Canadian Women’s Club: ~100
- Average age of Canadian Women’s Club current members: from what we could see, there were millennials to boomers! Everyone had a story and there were new and longtime members to talk to.
- Annual cost of membership, which funds events and programming at the Canadian Women’s Club: $45
- Money is raised and donated annually through fundraisers like the Canadian Women’s Club Bake Sale and Silent Auction, for food banks and other local organizations in need.

TOPIC: Future Imaginaries of Abundant Intelligences: Indigenous Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence and its Discontents
PRESENTER: Jason Edward Lewis is the University Research Chair in Computational Media and the Indigenous Future Imaginary as well professor of computation arts at Concordia University in Montreal. His research explores computation as a creative material, and seeks to understand how our technologies are constituted through explicit and implicit cultural knowledge practices.

The International Ocean Film Festival will be screening two Canadian feature length films:
1:30 pm at Roxie Theater – Bangla Surf Girls, Elizabeth D Costa, Lalita Krishna (Canada) 85 min – Three young Bangladeshi teenagers have discovered the waves and want to go surfing whenever they can.
4 pm at Fort Mason – Coextinction, Gloria Pancrazi, Elena Jean (Canada) 93 min – Not only a riveting story about the plight of the Southern Resident orcas, but a tale also about the collapse of an ecosystem and centuries of injustice.

The Canadian film, Forest For the Trees, will be screened in San Francisco in-person as part of the San Francisco Indie Fest Green Film Festival.

TRAVEL UPDATES
…From April 1, fully vaccinated travelers will no longer need to provide a pre-entry COVID-19 test result to enter Canada by air, land or water. Check here for the most current entry requirements.
…From May 1, Air Canada will fly five routes to/from SFO: Toronto (3x Daily), Vancouver (3x Daily), Montreal (2x Daily), Calgary (1x Daily), and the resumption of their daily Edmonton flight
…From June 1, Air Canada will relaunch their daily Sacramento – Vancouver flight.
