This Canada Day, remember the sacrifices of the Newfoundland Regiment
For many, Canada Day is a day of celebration. However, in Newfoundland and Labrador, it is a solemn day of remembrance.
On July 1, 1916, 22 officers and 758 other ranks of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment were directly involved in a frontal attack near the village of Beaumont‑Hamel, France during the First World War. Of these, all the officers and 658 other ranks became casualties. Less than 68 soldiers were available for roll call the next day.
Learn more about the Battle of Beaumont‑Hamel, and take a moment on July 1st to honour, thank and remember the sacrifices of the men of the Newfoundland Regiment.

Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships
Through the efforts of thousands of Legion volunteers, The Royal Canadian Legion has been organizing and coordinating the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships for 44 years in support of Canadian youth and our communities.
The world-class competition grew from Legionnaires’ support and promotion of youth sports as a healthy activity to help children whose fathers or mothers were serving abroad or had served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Today, the Legion Nationals has become the only premiere nationwide competition for U16 and U18 athletes.
