Next Sunday: Terry Fox Run
On Sunday, September 17th, the DML is excited to support the Silicon Valley Terry Fox Run and hope you will join us! You can find the DML page here where you can either join our team to participate in the event or make a donation towards our $500 team fundraising goal – or both. More details below and hope to see you there!
Back To School
Anyone with kids in public school in the Bay Area raced back from summer vacation in early to mid-August. Meanwhile in Canada, most enjoyed one last long weekend, including those heading off to university. Several Digital Moose Lounge Board member offspring navigated the cross-border application process and are studying at UBC, Toronto Metropolitan University, and Queens University this year. For this Marin-based editor, daughter #2 just finished her first week of school in Toronto, enjoying city views from her dorm, applying for her first BMO credit card, figuring out what shampoo works best in the hard water, and exploring her new Yonge and Dundas neighbourhood. I’m so happy to plant one foot (or in this case, daughter) back in Canada.
If you have questions about starting this process, please reach out. We’d be happy to share our experience and offer some resources.
Canadian Thanksgiving Dinner
Nous espérons vous acceuillir au jour de l’Action de grâce… at the DML and Berkeley Canadian Studies Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday, October 8th. We’ll be wishing the run was after that meal!
Thank you for reading. Merci!

The disparate and disproportionate involvement of African American families in the child welfare system has been well documented, but research examining the experiences of African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) Canadian families in child welfare is emerging in Canada.
In this presentation, Dr. Lance T. McCready, co-director of ACB-FGC, describes the community-based research that led to the development of ACB-FGC and implications of ACB-FGC for provincial policies and practices to address anti-Black racism in the child welfare system and among partner institutions.
