Memorial Day

Dear Michael,

Memorial Day is a day we remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our country. As we pay tribute to those we have lost, our national parks stand as sources of strength and comfort. Many of these parks honor our military service members not only today but year-round. These special sites memorialize the bravery of the people who stepped forward to protect our nation and stand for its ideals.

From the solemn honor commemorated at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, D.C., to the valiant dedication of the first African American pilots in World War II preserved at Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site in Alabama, our parks offer solace and reflection.

You can honor veterans by participating in Memorial Day events and other park experiences and by reading their names and learning their stories of sacrifice so that our nation could endure. Make sure to visit the National Park Service website for more information.

We hope you find peace and solace this Memorial Day and beyond.

Sincerely,

William Shafroth Headshot
