[eNewsletter #165] Happy New Year and cleanup planning…

From the Wreaths Across America organization.

Wishing You A Happy New Year!

While the eastern part of the country is hunkered down for today’s winter storm, and others are just coming out of the deep freeze, we want to wish you a warm and Happy New Year!

And we have several stories that will warm your heart as you come in from the cold…
For example, did you know that over the past two weeks since Wreath Day (December 16th), hundreds of volunteers (including our Chairman Wayne Hanson, his wife Ann, and the Worcester family after traveling down from Maine) have been back to the cemeteries, picking up wreaths that were blown over by the winter winds. Each wreath was placed again as a reaffirmed sign of respect.
Or maybe you will join the thousands and thousands of volunteers who will go out later this month (see more info below) to help “retire the wreaths” in an effort that is every bit as much about the Mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach.
And lastly, perhaps you saw the Wreaths Across America story told on NBC with Lester Holt (see the link below) or dozens of other media stations who captured the stories of our volunteers at locations all across the Nation.

A Full Circle Moment For This Gold Star Mother

A Full Circle Moment For This Gold Star Mother

This spontaneous moment the night before National Wreath Day this year illustrated the importance of holding up our troops and their families every day, but particularly during the holidays. Our military families sacrifice so much and endure such heartache during times of separation and loss. This story of service shared by Schneider’s professional driver David Price, accompanied by Lindsay Lawler and Chris Roberts, was a powerful reminder there are empty seats at thousands of family tables this holiday season.

[eNewsletter #164] It was one amazing day…

From the Wreaths Across America organization.

One Amazing Day!

1,422 participating locations nationwide; nearly 500 truckloads transporting 1,565,000 veterans’ remembrance wreaths throughout the country. Immeasurable love and respect show to our active duty military, veterans, and their families. Thank you America!
I cannot express the pride we all feel, when given a chance to step back and take in the view of a mission accomplished, after the wreaths have been placed. But what I am most proud of – is our volunteers. They persevere through all kinds of weather and challenges – all heeding the call to do their part. They help make the Wreaths Across America experience available to everyone.
Without them, there would be no Wreath Day. No quiet moments between families and between generations. No solemn salutes.
They (our volunteers) are the caretakers of our freedom, by honoring those who fought and sacrifice for those freedoms. Congratulations on a job well done.

[eNewsletter #163] Together, we did it…

From the Wreaths Across America organization.

Together, We Did It!

I am excited to share with everyone, that as of this week, we received enough support for full coverage of Arlington National Cemetery. In total, 1,570,000 will be placed at 1,422 participating locations nationwide.
There are still working and trucks being loaded. So we will be accepting sponsored wreaths until Wednesday, for any location where the trucks have not departed yet. Any wreath sponsored ships received that did not make the truck, will be placed in 2018 – so they always go to honor our veterans.
This has been a busy week, as the annual Wreath Escort makes its way out of Maine and on the road down to Arlington. I think you will really enjoy some of the highlights below.

Final Reminder: Royal Canadian Legion – Wreaths Across America

Comrades,

As many of you are aware, the Royal Canadian Legion US Zone, Branch #25 representing the San Francisco Bay area is a sponsor of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) Arkansas Division.  Each year, the cadets seek sponsors to purchase wreaths as a part of the Wreaths Across America event.  A wreath can be sponsored for $15 and a portion of each sponsorship goes to our cadets.

I ask that you visit https://donate.wreathsacrossamerica.org/?pageId=22107&relatedIds=15539&productId=114 and contribute to their number of local wreaths that will be placed at the National Cemetery at the Presidio here in San Francisco.

Additionally, if you are available on Saturday, 16 December at 11:00am I would encourage you to join the cadets – along with members of the Royal Canadian Legion – as volunteers to place the wreaths (regardless if you are able to sponsor any wreaths yourself).  The event is described as:

Ceremony and Volunteer Information

We are happy that you are willing to help with our Wreath Across America ceremony at San Francisco National Cemetery at Presidio (CAPNSF). Please do not forget to register on the San Francisco National Cemetery at Presidio (CAPNSF)!  That way you will get all updates about the cemetery itself.

Here are some things to remember about the ceremony:

  • Everyone of all ages and backgrounds is welcome.
  • Ceremonies around the world will be starting at the same moment, so please be on time.
  • Please help ensure that all participants get the opportunity to place a wreath.
  • Please follow the location coordinators instructions on where to place wreaths, as well as “how” they should be placed.
  • We especially appreciate volunteers willing to help clean-up. Please check in with the location coordinator if you are interested in helping with the clean-up.

The most important thing to remember is to have a wonderful experience participating in the ceremony and thank you so much for help Wreaths achieve our mission to remember, honor and teach.

Additional details at https://wreaths.fastport.com/viewLocation.html?page=15539&relate=22107

So please consider sponsoring one or more wreaths to support ourU.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) Arkansas Division and, if you are available, we would love to see you out for the event.
