An item from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission that may be of interest to members.

Welcome to the CWGC’s latest newsletter.

Remembrance 2021Last week, we were pleased to welcome the return of traditional remembrance events at CWGC cemeteries and memorials around the world. Many of our sites, from Surrey to Singapore, hosted their first larger-scale events since the pandemic began nearly two years ago to mark Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
What are Commonwealth War Graves?

Walk through any of our cemeteries across the world and you’ll see all kinds of different headstones. In our latest blog, Catherine Nell, CWGC’s Commemorations Officer, explains that Commonwealth War Graves aren’t always as straightforward as you may imagine.

Nine First World War soldiers reburied at Tyne Cot

Earlier this week, nine soldiers of the First World War were reburied with full military honours at Tyne Cot Cemetery in Belgium, the world’s largest CWGC cemetery. in the presence of our President, HRH The Duke of Kent. Seven of the casualties are known to have died on 14 October 1917 – and you can read more about them on our website.

#Remembranceis silence

A Remembrance Day item from our colleagues at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

#Remembranceis silence

Remembrance means many different things to people around the world. For us at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, remembrance is our day-job and our passion. We are committed to ensuring that the fallen of the Commonwealth forces of the two World Wars are never forgotten, through our work every day of the year.
For many others, remembrance is reflected in the two minutes silence held at 11am on 11 November to remember all those who have endured or been affected by conflict. Join us on our social media channels from 11am as we join this moment of silence to reflect and remember those we commemorate with a special remembrance video.
What does remembrance mean to you?Join the conversation and tell us what remembrance means to you by posting on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #Remembranceis. You could film a video, share a poignant photo, or tell us in your own words. However you choose to join the conversation, you will be joining a Commonwealth-wide opportunity to share what this important theme means to us all.

Black History Month • Appeal for Relatives • Grave of Corporal Jeffs Marked • A Very Special Christmas Carol Concert
In cemeteries and on memorials across Great Britain, the CWGC commemorates more than 300,000 service personnel at over 12,000 locations. These men and women were from all walks of life, originating from all across the Commonwealth from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures. All of these men and women came together during the two World Wars to fight for a common cause, and are now commemorated together across Great Britain.
As part of the United Kingdom’s Black History Month this October, our Public Engagement team will be holding events in partnership with the British Army and Royal Air Forces BAME networks, along with Black Poppy Rose to share the stories of some of the black communities who served in the two World Wars. In our latest blog, we share the stories of some of these remarkable individuals.
