What Does Ambition Mean To You?

An item from the Wreaths Across America organization.

Last weekend, WAA staff and the Columbia Falls, Maine, community welcomed nearly 200 volunteers, sponsors, partners, veterans, and Blue Star and Gold Star families to our 11th Annual Stem to Stone event. Over three very busy days, we shared laughter and tears and learned from each other’s experiences. I can tell you that I walked away with a renewed commitment to share with our millions of supporters, and I am so thankful to all who joined us in person and spirit!

In this month’s issue, you will read about some special individuals and organizations recognized for going above and beyond for the mission, such as the Veterans Heritage Site Foundation, which created the Great Smoky Mountain Veterans Gravesite Project to help identify and honor veterans who are buried throughout Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which spans five different counties between Tennessee and North Carolina. We also continue our Live with Purpose series this month, focusing on “Their Ambitions + Aspiration” and getting the first peek at next month’s new curriculum centered around the next attribute of a veteran’s wreath, “Their Optimism for America.”

This program and mission continue to grow because millions of individuals like those we met this weekend in Maine continue to “Find a Way to Serve” daily in their communities. Our volunteers’ time and commitment are key factors in our successful mission!

I personally want to thank all of you for your continued support. Your hands and hearts make a successful journey from Stem to Stone possible.

With gratitude,
Karen Worcester

Service in any capacity. That is what Michael Del Rosario, Army veteran and director at Walmart Private Fleet, strives for. Michael brings his ‘soldiers mentality’ to his position at Walmart – one of our longtime corporate partners – ensuring success and growth for himself and his team, especially for those returning to civilian life.

Double Your Impact During Giving In July!

An item from the Wreaths Across American organization.

Our year-round teaching mission continues through the summer with our Live with Purpose series. This month, we talk with Vickie Koutz, Past National President of the American Legion Auxiliary, about the attributes of humility, selflessness and modesty displayed by our servicemen and women.
It’s also the time of year when we spotlight our incredible sponsorship groups nationwide through our “Giving in July” campaign. Our dedicated volunteers work year-round in their communities to ensure that their local service members laid to rest each receive a veteran’s wreath on National Wreaths Across America Day. Many of these groups utilize our $5 payback program to support other veterans’ causes in their hometowns or the 3-for-2 program to help place as many veterans’ wreaths as possible come December.

The importance of and appreciation for our volunteers cannot be overstated. They certainly inspire all of us here at Wreaths Across America. We hope you will join us in supporting their efforts now and in the future.

As we kick off the summer and celebrate our continued independence, let us recommit to the yearlong mission to Remember, Honor, Teach.

“There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer.” — Gen. James H. Doolittle

Karen Worcester

How Do You Live With Integrity?

An item from the Wreaths Across American organization.

MMHeader
As we continue with our “live with purpose” series this month, we are reflecting on honesty and integrity. We’ve long been taught that honesty is the best policy; even as kids, we learned of Abe Lincoln’s stellar legal prowess, which earned him the nickname ‘Honest Abe.’ And who can forget that George Washington did chop down that cherry tree but…told the truth?

Yet, how do we teach our children integrity and the importance of living with strong moral principles that serve as a touchstone for making good life decisions?

The continued sharing of stories of those who have served, sacrificed and continue to serve makes an impression on our youth volunteers. They see real examples of staying strong in the face of adversity and doing the right thing.

Instilling the characteristics of honesty and integrity in the next generation is important for their well-being and critical to our country’s future.

“The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home.” — Confucius

Join Us In Teaching The Value of Freedom

An item from the Wreaths Across America organization.

email header (1)

Few know how much effort our volunteers put in to make National Wreaths Across America Day happen each December. Fewer still understand that the work of the dedicated volunteers and WAA staff is carried out year-round and grows yearly.

It is through the daily efforts of dedicated individuals like yourself that Wreaths Across America has been able to build a community for veterans, military families, and civic organizations bringing our mission to life throughout the year.

As we recognize Teacher Appreciation Week, we wanted to take a moment to share a few of the ways that you can continue to be involved in our mission to teach the next generation the value of freedom.

  • We are so proud of our expanded Teach Program, headed by a retired teacher who is a Gold Star Mother and in tandem with many well-respected, longstanding veteran support organizations. The character and service-centric curriculum is becoming increasingly in demand and can be downloaded on the WAA website for free.
  • Our Mobile Education Exhibit (MEE) travels all over the country, visiting schools and communities, bringing people together with the common goal of learning, sharing, and embracing local veterans’ service.
  • Our quarterly Teach Webinars equip educators and youth of all ages with the vast resources from the Library of Congress. The next webinar takes place on May 14th. Learn more and register here.

We thank you for your continued support of our mission. Today, we invite you to further your impact by making a $5 donation to our TEACH Program. Your contribution will directly support our mission to teach the next generation the value of freedom.

Sincerely,

The Wreaths Across America Team

How Do You Live By Example? Hear From Military Children During The Month Of The Military Child.

An item from the Wreaths Across America organization.

MMHeader

Dear Michael,

This month – the month of the Military Child – we teach strength, work ethic, and character in our “Live with Purpose” series. At Wreaths Across America, with the help of our millions of volunteers, we hope to influence young lives with the stories of real American heroes and to lead by example with their dedication to remembering, honor and teaching.

In our third video of the “Live with Purpose” series, we meet the Children’s Military Group at Metcalf School in Rhode Island. This group of incredible students are all military children, and their gatherings help them cope with having parents who are deployed in service to our country. Hear their touching stories, meet their parents, and take a moment to share appreciation for all that these young Americans have sacrificed.

With gratitude,
Karen Worcester
