“Keep moving forward.”

That was the last command Capt. Joshua Byers ever gave after an IED struck his vehicle in Iraq. Josh didn’t make it home, but his words saved lives and became a battle cry for his unit. Today, his story represents why our year-long mission is so vital.

Michael Barbour, Capt. Byer’s sacrifice – like those of countless other fallen heroes – must never be forgotten. Yet there is a growing disconnect between younger generations and the profound sacrifices of our service members and veterans. His powerful last command reminds us why we must act now.

We must ensure our children understand and learn from heroes like Joshua who gave everything so others could live free. His story teaches us about unwavering leadership, sacrifice, and dedication to fellow service members – values that future generations need to learn and embrace.

Here at Wreaths Across America, we are committed to doing just that. Through our year-round mission to Remember, Honor and Teach, our efforts focus on showing our nation’s veterans that their service mattered. We do this by sharing their stories on Wreaths Across America Radio. Welcoming Home our Vietnam veterans in communities across the country on the Mobile Education Exhibit. In helping Veteran Service Organizations raise awareness and funding through our Group Sponsorship program.

And maybe most important, we honor our nation’s veterans by teaching the next generation the value of freedom and what it means to serve. Through our TEACH program we offer the free resources for anyone wanting to help the youth of their community learn.

We hope you will find a way to join us in this yearlong mission. But no matter what, remember to “Keep moving forward.”

MARINES' MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION & FOUNDATION

National Vietnam War Veterans Day

Dear Supporter of Marines’ Memorial,

Today, Americans come together to honor those who served in Vietnam.

These loyal patriots left their families behind and battled under daunting conditions to protect the freedoms we hold dear. We owe them a debt of gratitude—and must never forget their sacrifice.

Educate, Commemorate, and Serve the Active Duty and Veteran community. You can honor the legacy of military service by supporting programs that commemorate and serve Veterans and their families. It’s a simple way to show your appreciation for those who served and sacrificed so much.

Sincerely,

Michael A. Rocco Signature

Overwhelming majority of Americans oppose 51st state talk

STORY BY STEPHEN J. THORNE

With U.S. President Donald Trump threatening to tariff Canada into submission as the “51st state,” 92 per cent of Americans surveyed by the Angus Reid Institute said they had no, or only qualified, support for a merger.

Sixty per cent of 2,005 Americans questioned online between Feb. 27 and March 3, 2025, said they had no interest in Canada joining the United States, while another 32 per cent said they would support the idea only if Canadians wanted it.

Heroic Black doctor of the Halifax Explosion highlighted in new publication

STORY BY ALEX BOWERS

The story of the Dec. 6, 1917, Halifax disaster has been told in print and on-screen innumerable times, usually detailing the same, or at least similar, narrative of what was the largest humanmade explosion until the United States dropped atomic bombs on two Japanese cities in August 1945.

Few, of course, would deny it’s a story that deserves to be highlighted. To unearth forgotten or largely unknown aspects, however, is a far greater challenge. Despite this, historian and Halifax disaster expert Joel Zemel has achieved precisely that.
