Happy Birthday, USMC!

An item from a fellow veterans organization in the Bay Area.

Happy Birthday,

U.S. Marine Corps!

We build our lives on tradition.
At 245 years old today, the U.S. Marine Corps has had a lot of time to build up traditions. As does Marines’ Memorial Association who turns 74 today! Across the world, Marines are celebrating their birthday with time-honored customs like slicing a cake with a sword and handing out the first pieces to the oldest and youngest Marines in the room. It’s as much a part of their identity as the nickname “devil dog,” which dates to WWI!
Celebrate Our Heroes
A Marine’s character is less tangible than the Eagle, Globe and Anchor on his or her uniform, but it’s as much a tradition. And their diehard belief in loyalty, best summed up by the Marine Corps motto “Semper Fidelis,” Always Faithful, is something we can all easily adopt.
We hope you’ll celebrate this amazing milestone with us, because after the year we’ve had, we all deserve a reason to celebrate!
But this special day is also a reason to give back to the military community. Will you consider demonstrating your commitment to our veterans, currently serving and their families with a contribution? Supporting the Marines’ Memorial on this special day allows us to fund our programs, including:
  • Aid & Assist Program— Provides care packages for deployed service members, complimentary memberships for currently serving and subsidized rooms during training in the area and while transitioning to civilian life.
  •  Gold Star Parents Honor & Remembrance Event— Offers grieving parents the means to connect with a supportive community and build essential relationships that last a lifetime.
  • Scholarship Program— Gives the children and grandchildren of veterans the opportunity to pursue higher education.
Give A Gift Today
By giving on this special day, you’ll follow a tradition older than our Nation — supporting those who volunteer to defend our freedoms today.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
If your giving is restricted to 501(c)3 organizations, please consider a gift to Marines’ Memorial Foundation which supports all programs of the Marines’ Memorial Association. Please contact the Marines’ Memorial Development Department at development@marinesmemorial.org for more information.

You’re Invited! 245th USMC Birthday Celebration

An item from a fellow veterans organization in the Bay Area.

You are Invited

Join us “virtually” on 10 November at 5pm Pacific to celebrate the Marine Corps’ 245th Birthday!

What does the Marine Corps Birthday mean to you?

To us at the Marines’ Memorial, the Birthday is a chance to celebrate the honor, tradition, camaraderie, and dedication of United States service members.

The Club is known for our festive Birthday Ball that normally gathers more than 500 attendees to eat, drink, dance, and celebrate the USMC together. This year, we have had to think beyond our normal traditions to pay proper tribute to the Corps.  Combining new messages from our President & CEO, Chairman, and Guest of Honor General Peter Pace, USMC (Ret), plus archival footage from past Birthday Balls at the Club, we will have a virtual celebration that honors the Birthday and helps us come together, even if we are not in the same room.

On 10 November at 5pm Pacific, we hope you have some wine (or a martini) and a slice of cake ready to celebrate with Marines’ Memorial and our incredible members.  (The video will be available on YouTube any time after 5pm as well!)

Happy Birthday and Semper Fidelis,

LtGen Michael A. Rocco and Your Marines’ Memorial Team

Honor Our Heroes
Dear Michael Barbour,
Home.
It’s a place that looks, sounds and smells a little different for each of us, but the meaning of the word is the same: safety and belonging.
Right now, there are thousands of service members who willingly gave up the peace of their home to protect a cause bigger than themselves. Leaving home, family and friends is hard enough during normal times, but being in an unfamiliar place during such uncertain times? Our troops are tough, but that can take its toll.
As most of you know all too well, when you deploy, you anticipate there will be challenges. But our service members couldn’t have anticipated COVID-19, extended deployments, quarantines, and being away from their families during an unprecedented time for our Nation.
We take care of our own every day of the year, but these deployed men and women need our support more than ever this year. That’s why this Day of the Deployed, we’re showing our appreciation and helping boost their morale. Can you help us pay it forward?
pay it forward
Your gift of $10 to $250 (or more!) allows us to build and send Care Packages with multiple sundry items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, deodorant, and much more. Due to COVID, we were unable to send our usual summer shipment, so we plan to send even more this holiday season.
A care package can’t replace the warm embrace of a loved one. But it’s a tangible sign that we are grateful for all of our service members’ choices to give up the one place we all love: home.
