As a sequel to War Stories published by Canada’s Ultimate Story in 2016,
these stories all concern events that happened in the last part of the war,
between 1917 and 1918. The authors of these articles are no longer with us and
the editors of the day left little to tell us who they were, but new generations
can at least glimpse at what they went through and how they saw the world at war.

commitment, not by troops, bureaucrats or military brass, but by governments.

It’s easy enough to say Canada’s military needs more and better ships, planes and armoured vehicles, but acquiring them takes time and inevitably more than one government to achieve. It’s like turning the proverbial aircraft carrier around, and changing captain and crew in the process.

stake was nothing less than the outcome of the war itself and the future of the free world.
It demanded a Herculean effort, technological innovation and untold resources.
Yet all that remains of one of its most iconic symbols, the corvette, is a single vessel—HMCS Sackville, tied up on the Halifax waterfront a few months a year.

Now a group called the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust is changing that.
