Hello Friend
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Christmas is fast approaching and all the work you do to help our veterans is more important than ever at this time of year.

As we plan for 2022 and new ways to support the cause, we must still keep an eye on the upcoming festive period. With a new collection to shop and an exciting fundraising challenge to sign up for before the New Year, there are plenty of ways to get involved and help us provide the support our veterans need when they leave the Armed Forces.

The ‘12,000 Steps a Day in January’ challenge is a daily activity throughout the month of January but how you choose to complete the ‘steps’ each day is really up to you. Taking these steps – 12,000 a day to be precise – will provide much-needed support for military veterans across the UK.

It’s FREE to take part, all we ask is that you set up a fundraising page and share with your friends and family. You’ll even get a FREE challenge T- shirt!

Start as you mean to go on, one step at a time!

New website documents over 150 years of Black military service in Canada

Story by Stephen J. Thorne

At 17, James Post of Ottawa had already been serving two years overseas when he earned a Distinguished Conduct Medal for “conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty” during a 1917 attack on the First World War battlefield of Passchendaele.

Post, a corporal in the 4th Battalion, Canadian Mounted Rifles, also happened to be one of about 700 Black men who served in non-segregated units of the Canadian Expeditionary Force between 1914 and 1918.

Lowering the Maple Leaf

Story by Sharon Adams

On Dec. 1, 2011, at a quiet ceremony in Afghanistan, the Maple Leaf flag was lowered for the last time in Kandahar as Canadian troops prepared to leave the wartorn region.

The combat mission was at its end, but Canadian troops would continue to serve dangerous missions in the country for three more years.
