Anzac Day is the day all Australians come together in remembrance. But this year we’ll have to come together in spirit, instead of in person. We can all still keep the Anzac spirit alive and honour our veterans and service members from the safety of our own homes.

Here are some activities you and your family can get involved in this Anzac Day.

For the first time in its history, the Dawn Service will not be attended by members of the public. Instead you can stream the Ceremony from your home.

This year, in lieu of a veterans march we are asking you to share photos of the medals you wear on Anzac Day to create a virtual collection of medals. Share your picture to social media using #ShowYourMedals.

RECORD THE ODE

Show your appreciate for our veterans and service members this Anzac Day by becoming part of the #ForTheFallen online tribute.
Simply record a short video of you or a family member reciting The Ode and upload it to social media with the hashtag #ForTheFallen.

PLACES OF PRIDE

There are thousands of memorials across the country that stand as a reminder of the service and sacrifice Australians have made for us. While we can’t visit them in person this Anzac Day, you can visit them online via the Places of Pride website. The website will feature a live stream at dawn of memorials across a number of Australian capital cities.

If you have a photo of your local memorial upload it to placesofpride.awm.gov.au to help us build the national register.

THIS IS THE CALL TO STAND AT DAWN

On the eve of Anzac Day, are you prepared to stand alongside your fellow New Zealanders and Australians to remember and honour all those who have given so much for us?

The world has changed. What was normal just over a month ago, no longer reflects the society we live in today. But we have always been an innovative and resilient nation of people. While we are unable to go about our daily routines like we used to, or commemorate events in traditional ways, we can still ensure that we hold to the values that the Anzac spirit is based upon. Anzac Day means so much to both New Zealand and Australia. That traumatic Gallipoli campaign 105 years ago has in many ways helped define our fighting spirit and sense of identity across our two nations. It is that spirit and the Trans-Tasman bond that we will need to draw upon in coming months.

Now is the time to show that spirit.

At 6 am tomorrow, Saturday 25 April, take a moment to remember and honour our Anzacs and all those heroes who have served for New Zealand. Join us to Stand At Dawn. Tune in the Dawn Service broadcast at 5:55 am and gather those in your bubble to mark Anzac Day 2020. Whether it be in your front yard, at your letterbox, the living room, on your balcony or at the front door, it doesn’t matter. It is the act of remembering and honouring that counts. Anzac Day 2020 will mark the beginning of a new, defining chapter in New Zealand history as we come out of lockdown next week. Let’s harness that Anzac spirit, by honouring our past and present heroes before we begin to re-build our future.

Show your support by decorating your home, letterbox, a tree, balcony or garden, get creative.
Share your efforts on social by tagging us @RSA_National and using the hashtag #StandAtDawn.
Gather in your living room, front door, balcony, at the gate or in your yard to observe Dawn Service.

My “ANZAC journey” began when I first visited Çanakkale/Gallipoli three decades ago as a student. The deeper I moved around the area the more a shiver ran through me. That beautiful peninsula was, 105 years ago, a bloody stage for a war like no other the world had ever before seen. Mixed emotions evoked in me a sense of pride in my nation and our grandfathers who bravely defended Turkey, but also a pride for that unique friendship carved out and uniting our nations for over a century.

ANZAC Day commemoration in San Francisco will be at the Log Cabin in the Presidio, Sunday April 28, 11:00 a.m.

Please note this up-coming service to commemorate a battle that included members of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment among the ANZAC forces.

This is a reminder for those wanting to attend the ANZAC service in San Francisco and enjoy a picnic in the paddock afterwards.

On behalf of the New Zealand and Australian communities in San Francisco, it is our honour to invite you to attend the annual ANZAC Day service to be held at The Log Cabin, 1299 Storey Ave, in San Francisco on Sunday the 28th of April.

Following the ceremony at the Log Cabin, there will be a BBQ with light refreshments and a no host bar.

Please purchase your BBQ tickets in advance to assist with catering numbers.

BBQ tickets can be purchased from the SF Aussies website sfaussies.com, or possibly on the day of for $25 per person & $15 per child (depending if they sell out via the website or not).

NZAASF: Our mission is to promote and foster good relations between NZ and the US through a variety of social and cultural events held in the Bay Area.

A reminder of this event from the SF Kiwis – New Zealand American Association San Francisco organization.

The Royal Canadian Legion encourages all members in the San Francisco Bay Area to attend this event. For those that are unaware, ANZAC Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli. While the main Allied combatants were from Australia and New Zealand, there was a British contingent there in the form of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. This was some ~35 years before Newfoundland would join Canada. For more information about the role of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment at Gallipoli, visit:
