Legion receives honourable award

Dominion President David Flannigan accepted the 2017 General Sir Arthur Currie Award on May 13 on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion and all Legionnaires.

For almost 60 years, children across Canada have honoured Veterans by participating in the Legion’s annual Poster and Literary Contests. This year’s results are in!

Dear Member,

To all those with a vested interest in Canada’s Air Force, we are pleased to share this preliminary message for which details are expected to be confirmed very soon. The Royal Canadian Air Force will accept new colours courtesy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Toronto, at Nathan Phillips Square, on 1 September 2017.

The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) will be in full swing, along with one of Canada’s largest air shows, over the waterfront.

Our Wings in the region, as well as those who may wish to join in the celebration/commemoration from further afield, are encouraged to prepare for this significant event.

Further information will be released when it becomes available.

The next edition in our award-winning series Canada’s Ultimate Story is
World War I: True Stories from Vimy to Victory.

As a sequel to War Stories published by Canada’s Ultimate Story in 2016,
these stories all concern events that happened in the last part of the war,
between 1917 and 1918. The authors of these articles are no longer with us and
the editors of the day left little to tell us who they were, but new generations
can at least glimpse at what they went through and how they saw the world at war.

Defence full of future promises

By Stephen J. ThorneThe fundamental challenge to change within the Canadian Armed Forces is
commitment, not by troops, bureaucrats or military brass, but by governments.

It’s easy enough to say Canada’s military needs more and better ships, planes and armoured vehicles, but acquiring them takes time and inevitably more than one government to achieve. It’s like turning the proverbial aircraft carrier around, and changing captain and crew in the process.
