July 2019 Digital Moose Lounge Newsletter

A newsletter from one of our fellow Canadian organizations in the Bay Area.

Celebration success! More than 200 Canadians (and honourary Canadians) joined us on June 27th for the 9th annual flag raising at San Jose City Hall followed by our celebration at Uproar Brewing Company. We shared our DML Canadian Heritage Minute, ate Nanaimo bars, had some great maple beer and collected donations for Second Harvest Food Bank.

At the flag raising event, the City of San Jose and the Consulate of Canada presented a plaque and certificate to the DML for 20 years of service in the Bay Area. At Uproar Brewing, the DML was honoured with two special attendees, Handol Kim, and Dario Cruz, who were two of the four DML founders. Thanks to everyone who helped us with the big day. With your generosity, we raised over $600 for Second Harvest Food Bank, surpassing the $500 raised last year, and collected more than 69 pounds of food. The food collected will provide 57 nutritious meals for those in need.

A big thank you to our sponsors; BC Trade and Invest, the Consulate of Canada, Marriott of San Jose, the City of San Jose and the Office of Council member Raul Peralez. Also a big thank you to Steve Vandewater and the team at Uproar Brewing for hosting us. Finally a big thank you to our volunteers who helped us make the big event possible.

As a special Canada Day present, Air Canada is offering DML members 15% off all fares between USA and Canada using code “CANADA2019” (offer expires December 15, 2019).

Tell Us a DML Story to Celebrate 20 Years!
In September 1999, a small group of Canadians in the Bay Area formed what is the Digital Moose Lounge today. This year, we celebrate our 20th birthday! We are looking for original members and Board of Directors to help tell the story of DML in celebration. If you were part of the DML from 1999 to 2015 – like Helen, Mike and the Moose in the photo –  please send us an email at programs@digitalmooselounge.com
Raptors are NBA Champs

On June 13, Canada saw it’s first major title come north of the border for this first time since the Toronto FC won the MLSE in 2017. This is the first major four title (MLB, NBA, NHL, NFL) for Canada since the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Blue Jays both won in 1993. The Raptors closed out the series in the final game in Oracle Arena, defeating the Golden State Warriors 114-110 in game 6 of the series. During the finals, Canadians in the San Francisco area, including our DML members, were able to attend Molson and Tim Hortons sponsored events at Tabletop Tap House.

Ask a Canadian
