How Can You Help
In the spirit of DML Canadians Doing Good, we have selected the Alameda County Community Food Bank as the beneficiary of our event. Support our joint effort in ending hunger and poverty in the community by bringing a non-perishable food item for donation or by making a small financial donation when you arrive.
2019 Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign
Each year the Royal Canadian Legion conducts the Poppy Campaign, along with thousands of our members who volunteer from coast to coast to coast, to raise funds in support of Veterans and their families. The US Zone, Branch #25 (representing the San Francisco Bay area) is starting their 2019 poppy campaign this month. Poppies are distributed freely, but your generous donations are invaluable.  For more information or to find out where you can pick up a poppy, visit by their site here.
Tell Us a DML Story to Celebrate 20 Years!
In September 1999, a small group of Canadians in the Bay Area formed what is the Digital Moose Lounge today. This year, we are celebrating our 20th birthday! We are looking for original members and Board of Directors to help tell the story of DML in celebration. If you were part of the DML from 1999 to 2015 – like Helen, Mike and the Moose in the photo –  please send us an email at programs@digitalmooselounge.com

Military Milestones
HMCS Iroquois damaged in Korea

HMCS Iroquois damaged in Korea

Story by Sharon Adams

HMCS Iroquois was on its first tour of duty in Korea, under frequent fire as it patrolled the east coast, itself frequently firing on North Korean rail lines.

A tunnel near Songjin on the main rail line carrying war supplies from Russia to North Korea was frequently shelled and under constant repair. It was the target for about two hours on Oct. 2, 1952, as Iroquois worked to keep repair crews from bringing the line back into operation.

Hitler, Raeder, and the
demise of the Kriegsmarine

Story by Stephen J. Thorne

Given his obsessive, hands-on leadership, intolerance of failure, and penchant for brutal punishment, it had to be more than a little disconcerting when an infuriated Adolf Hitler learned details of a major sea battle from a British news agency hours before his own admirals told him about it.

Der Führer was so angry that he scrapped the German high-seas fleet in the midst of the Second World War. Grand Admiral Erich Raeder, who had commanded the Kriegsmarine for 14 years, would surrender his post to Admiral Karl Dönitz, head of Germany’s vaunted U-boat fleet.
