Hello

Tommy 10k aboard HMS Prince Of Wales

Did you see the absolutely incredible kick off to our Tommy 10k this week? The crew of one of the Royal Navy’s leading aircraft carriers joined forces with Royal British Legion Industries to launch a national fundraising campaign which aims to raise vital funds for the military charity.

On Wednesday 6th October, more than 60 crew members of the HMS Prince of Wales took on RBLI’s Tommy 10k challenge which encourages participants to run, walk or ‘wheel’ 10 kilometres over the coming Remembrance period to fundraise for ex-service personnel and their families.

Crewmembers took part in the challenge on the ship’s 280 metre-long flight deck, which has space for three full-size football pitches. Joining them was RBLI’s Chief Executive Steve Sherry CMG OBE.

The Tommy 10k, so named after RBLI’s iconic Tommy figure, first launched at the height of the pandemic in November last year with more than 2,000 taking part to help to raise more than £250,000 for vulnerable military veterans during the pandemic.

This year however, Royal British Legion Industries are looking to mobilise Armed Forces units, regiments, crews, bases, stations and garrisons to take part, calling on them to raise £5,000 in return for naming rights to a room of the charity’s new Centenary Village.

The HMS Prince of Wales is one of the most powerful surface warships ever constructed in the UK. The 65,000 tonne ship holds a minimum of 700 crew members which rises to 1,600 with aircraft on board. The carrier was in Portsmouth, where the Tommy10k will take place, after its final training exercise before becoming fully operational.

Join the Tommy 10k now!

RBLI Remembrance Event with Lambeth Palace

We are partnering with Lambeth palace for an exciting event on the 29th of October and you are invited! This is an opportunity to visit the gardens of Lambeth Palace and experience an installation of RBLI Tommys, plus take part in an outdoor Christian Service, followed by a Moment of Remembrance suitable for a range of traditions and beliefs.

‘Lambeth Palace Remembers’ will be a unique opportunity for the public, from all backgrounds, and a range of traditions and beliefs to engage with, learn about, share, experience and reflect. Throughout the afternoon there will be a short outdoor Christian service (come rain or shine!), followed by a moment to share experiences and customs from other traditions, concluding with a minute’s silence to remember and reflect upon those who served in defence of freedom. There will be opportunity to hear and read testimony and first-hand accounts of conflict from a wide and inclusive spectrum of voices.

Drinks and light refreshments available in the Palace marquee.

Free entry, but we would encourage you to reserve one of the limited spaces here…
