Lest we forget. Nous nous souvenons.
Our friends at the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 25 in San Francisco) will be hosting their Remembrance Day ceremony in Petaluma on Saturday, November 5th – yes, it is earlier than Canada-based services, and gives everyone a chance to attend their local Veterans Day ceremony on November 11th. Michael Barbour of Branch 25 has been doing a great job getting poppies into the hands of Canadians in the Bay Area ever since Thanksgiving, making them available at various events and venues. If you still need a poppy, the DML will have them on hand at our Chesterfield Chat on November 10th at Manny’s in SF. Between now and then, you can also check out the Legion’s list of poppy locations. Thank you, Michael!
Remembrance Day Service
November 5, 2022 at 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Liberty Cemetery, 20 Liberty Rd, Petaluma, CA 94952, USA
The first poppy was presented to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon in Ottawa last week.
“I’m honoured to receive the First Poppy. Conflicts still rage and the members of the Canadian Armed Forces bravely, courageously, face the very worst so that the rest of us do not. Today and every day, I will continue to remember, honour and support our veterans and I will encourage all Canadians to do the same,” she said.
The Legion’s Annual Poppy Campaign officially opened on Friday, October 28th.

Chesterfield Chat: The Future of Work
Thursday, November 10th
6:30 to 9:00 PM
Manny’s, 3092 16th St., San Francisco
The Digital Moose Lounge presents an engaging panel discussing the latest back-to-office trends and “The Future of Work”.
During pandemic-related lockdowns and work-from-home culture, many DML members spent time in Canada, working their Bay Area tech jobs remotely. The booming tech sector attracted loads of investment, and boosted a Canadian near-shoring industry, as Bay Area tech firms sought out Canada’s talent and relatively flexible immigration policies.
Some commentators speculated that this trend would permanently shift the gravity of tech away from Silicon Valley towards Canadian and other U.S. / global talent centers. But with the recent slowdown in investments and a recession on the horizon, how will the future of work play out for Canada?
In this panel, we gather senior policy and tech HR practitioners to assess the future of remote working and implications for the Canadian tech economy.

Film: Sin La Habana (San Francisco Dance Film Festival)
Saturday, November 6th
3:30 PM
Brava Theatre, 2781 24th Street, San Francisco
Screening supported by the Consulate General of Canada.
It is a story of Leonardo, a classical dancer, and Sara, a lawyer, who are young, beautiful and in love. They’re also ambitious, but their dreams are trapped by Cuba’s closed borders. Their ticket to a brighter future lies with Nasim, an Iranian-born Canadian tourist with a taste for the exotic, but she has her own demons to face. Power, money, and creativity intertwine in a passionate love triangle with a hint of destiny, and cultures clash in a torrid dance between Quebec’s winter and Havana’s sultry Malecón.

Blog bits:
After an oversold Canadian Thanksgiving when over 100 gathered in Berkeley over turkey and tarts of the butter variety, and 80 hockey fans enjoying each other’s company at the Leafs/Sharks game last week, it’s suddenly NOVEMBER! And that means American Thanksgiving is on it’s way. If you didn’t get enough (or any) turkey in October, our friends at Cream Co. Meats is offering 20% off and free shipping to our community. Enjoy a certified, pasture raised regenerative turk-eh!
We reviewed his book in August, we have a new blog post covering David Wayne Stewart’s book launch: True North, Down South: Tales of a Professional Canadian in America.
From the Embassy: Connect2Canada
Canadians of New York – what about Canadians of the San Francisco Bay Area?
In 2017, in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, the Government of Canada donated 150 maple trees to the American people. See how they’ve been growing over the last five years! SEE MORE
