July 17 is almost here. The date marks the Legion’s official anniversary, recognizing the day in 1926 when the Canadian Legion was formally incorporated by a Special Act of Parliament. This summer, members and Branches across Canada will mark The Royal Canadian Legion’s 100^th anniversary—a historic moment to reflect on a century of service, Remembrance, community, and support for Veterans and their families. Whether you attend an event, bring a friend, visit your local Branch, or volunteer to help with anniversary activities, there are many ways to be part of this special day.

July 17: Be part of the Legion’s 100^th anniversary

On July 17, The Royal Canadian Legion will mark its 100^th anniversary. This important date is an opportunity for members, Branches, and communities to come together to honour the Legion’s history, celebrate its ongoing work, and look ahead to the next century of service.

National commemorations in Ottawa

In Ottawa, a national commemorative ceremony will take place at the National War Memorial, where Her Excellency the Right Honourable Louise Arbour will join Veterans, Legionnaires, youth, and dignitaries to recognize 100 years of Remembrance as part of the 100^th Anniversary of The Royal Canadian Legion.

The day will also include a special cake cutting and the unveiling of a commemorative Canada Post stamp.

Participate in a collective tribute of Remembrance

As part of the Legion’s 100^th anniversary, members and communities will be invited to write messages of Remembrance at participating Branches and locations. These messages will be collected from across the country and brought together into a national commemorative mural honouring the Fallen.

Anniversary activities at Branches across Canada

Across the country, Branches are preparing to mark July 17 with local commemorations, open houses, barbecues, special events, and other anniversary activities on and around the date.

These events are a chance to connect with other members, welcome the community, learn more about the Legion’s work, and take part in this once-in-a-century milestone close to home.

Join in or lend a hand

Many Branches are looking for volunteers to help with anniversary activities before and during July 17. This is a great opportunity to try volunteering, meet people at your Branch, and help make the day special for members and visitors.

Help Care for War Graves in Canada

Royal Canadian Legion members can help honour the fallen of the Commonwealth by joining the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s National Volunteer Program. On June 1, the program launched in Quebec and New Brunswick, completing its national footprint. Volunteers are needed in Quebec, New Brunswick, and in rural communities across the country.

CWGC Volunteers visit their assigned war graves in local cemeteries twice a year to report on their condition, and if needed, perform light cleaning using approved methods. By giving a little of your time, you can help care for war graves and ensure the stories of the fallen are never forgotten.
