Every year, as September 11 approaches, we all remember where we were when we heard the news. We remember the images. We remember the disbelief, the fear, and the terrible realization that thousands of innocent people had begun an ordinary Tuesday morning and would never return home. We remember the firefighters and police officers who ran toward danger when every instinct must have told them to run the other way. We remember those lost in the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and the passengers and crew of Flight 93. We remember young men and women, and even some who had served before, who answered the call in the days that followed. But each year, I find myself thinking about something else, too.
I remember September 12.
