National Liberty Ship Memorial
|
| -Three weeks out.
On October 10 and 11, the SS Jeremiah O’Brien will do what she’s done every Fleet Week we’ve run: get underway, hold her place in the Bay, and let a few hundred people watch the Navy’s newest ships and the Blue Angels from the deck of a ship built in 1943. Below decks, the engine room crew keeps a triple-expansion steam engine running the way it ran when the ship crossed the Atlantic during the war. Above decks, docents walk you through the bridge, the crew quarters, and what daily life looked like for the merchant mariners who sailed her. Lunch is included. Beer and wine are available onboard. And the whole thing happens on the water — not from a folding chair on the Embarcadero. Tickets: $195 adults / $125 youth / $480 family → Get tickets — October 10 Pier 45 Suite 4A
