About Michael K. Barbour

Michael K. Barbour is the Director of Faculty Development and a Professor of Instructional Design for the College of Education and Health Sciences at Touro University California. He has been involved with K-12 online learning in a variety of countries for well over a decade as a researcher, teacher, course designer and administrator. Michael's research focuses on the effective design, delivery and support of K-12 online learning, particularly for students located in rural jurisdictions.

Hello Fleet Week Fanatics!

We are so excited to be hosting another year of amazing programs and events! We wanted to take them time to say THANK YOU for your continued support over the years!

It is because of our loyal fans like you and the generous donations you all make that Fleet Week is able to put on an incredible week of events. However, Fleet Week is more than just one week of fun, we take pride in actively participating in our community and creating programs that honor those serving in our nation’s military as well as our nation’s veterans.

This year we want to give back to the amazing schools raising the next generation of kids. In 2019 we were able to donate a total of $30,000 across eight Bay Area High School music programs as part of “The High School Band Challenge!” This year we are hoping to increase that donation, so we turn to our loyal supports like you to help us beat it! Every donation no matter how big or small helps us give back to our community starting with these amazing High School Programs and continuing to the many other programs Fleet Week actively contributes to. These programs include:

  • The Honor Our Fallen Tribute Concert
  • Fleet Week’s celebration of K9 heroes
  • Social and sporting activities for visiting service members
  • Fleet Week’s Center for Humanitarian Assistance
  • Education programs for joint civilian/military disaster response missions
  • Community-focused events, such as visits by the troops to senior centers and food banks

Earlier today the branch unofficially began its annual 2022 Poppy Campaign, as it participated in the 5th Annual Canadian Thanksgiving that was co-hosted Digital Moose Lounge and the Canadian Studies Program at the University of California at Berkeley.  Below are some pictures from the event.

Juno Beach Centre Saved! | Centre Juno Beach sauvé !

This announcement came earlier today, but is welcome news.
In March 2022, the Juno Beach Centre publicly announced that its long-term viability was being threatened by a proposed condominium development on the land next to the museum. Today, we are happy to announce that a settlement has been reached between the JBC and the French developer. No condos will be built adjacent to the Juno Beach Centre.

With Canadian Thanksgiving coming this weekend, it is only appropriate that we express our deep gratitude to the Government of Canada, the town of Courseulles-sur-Mer, the French Government, the Région Normandie, the Départment du Calvados, and the Intercommunalité Cœur de Nacre for making this settlement possible.

Thanks most of all to you – the public – for your unwavering support. Your consideration, advocacy and assistance have saved the Juno Beach Centre.

En mars 2022, le Centre Juno Beach a annoncé publiquement que sa viabilité à long terme était menacée par un projet de développement d’immeubles sur le terrain à côté du musée. Nous sommes heureux d’annoncer qu’un accord a été conclu entre la CJB et le promoteur français. Le projet de développement d’immeubles à côté du CJB ne se poursuivra pas. 

À l’approche de jour d’action de grâce canadienne ce week-end, nous voudrions exprimer notre profonde gratitude au Gouvernement du Canada, à la ville de Courseulles-sur-Mer, au Gouvernement de la France, à la Région Normandie, au Département du Calavdos et à l’Intercommunalité Cœur de Nacre pour avoir rendu cet accord possible.

Merci surtout à vous – le public – pour votre soutien indéfectible. Votre considération, votre plaidoyer et votre aide ont sauvé le Centre Juno Beach.
