Hello
Our latest fundraising challenge, The Great Tommy Sleep Out, has seen supporters up and down the country brave the cold for a night (or a few!) this March in aid of the roughly 6,000 military veterans sadly living on the streets in the UK. Incredibly, more than 4,500 of you signed up to take on the challenge and have raised over £180,000 in just under 4 weeks. Beyond our wildest dreams!

The team at Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company has been working hard to fulfil the thousands of challenge fundraising packs, which includes a beanie hat and booklet printed professionally in-house! The community has loved the challenge so much they keep asking us what’s next… stand by for the VE Day line up Team Tommy!

“After completing the Tommy 10000 Step Challenge there was no way I wasn’t going to take part in this Sleep Out Challenge. My Son Thomas joined me again, as did a fellow Kings Regiment Veteran Rob, who had also signed up for the Challenge. Bring on the next one!”

PTSD Patches raise over £50,000

As a charity, we support a wide-ranging number of issues that are common amongst veterans, particularly PTSD. We are delighted to announce that sales from our PTSD awareness patches have raised over £50,000 for RBLI to help us continue our work supporting veterans through employment and housing.

This huge achievement is all thanks to Tommy Club Founding Patrons, Tim Brown and Paul Sapsford who designed, produced and donated these patches to help our veterans. None of this would have been possible without them and we are so grateful!

All patches are available to purchase through the RBLI shop.

THIS MONTH: APRIL 2021

Spring is all about rebirth, and we are certainly seeing new signs of life around San Francisco and also at the Marines’ Memorial. There is still far to go before this crisis is over, but it does look more and more possible that recovery can begin in earnest before the year is out. Meanwhile, won’t you join us this month for a delicious dinner in Chesty’s Bar & Grill?

It’s only because of your support that 2020 was such a success! Please consider a 2021 contribution to ensure we support even more veterans and their families this year. Thank you!

Also of note for April:

> HAPPY 113th BIRTHDAY to the US Army Reserve!

> HAPPY 73rd BIRTHDAY to the US Air Force Reserve!

Bird strike caused fatal Snowbirds crash, report confirms

Story by Stephen J. Thorne

A single small bird brought down a Canadian Snowbirds demonstration aircraft last year after it was sucked into the plane’s engine and caused a compressor stall, a flight safety report confirmed on March 29.

Both air crew escaped the CT-114 Tutor as it went down on takeoff near Kamloops, B.C., on May 17, 2020. But they were low and Captain Jennifer Casey—the team’s public affairs officer—was killed after she is believed to have become briefly entangled with her ejection seat and her parachute failed to fully open. The pilot, Capt. Richard MacDougall, landed on the roof of a house and was badly injured.
